A Big Top…

The Circus Clown

Encircles us

His made up  face

And painted on

Smile belies

An origin

Not thought

Much less sought

From a world inanimate.

The balding pate

Sprouts tufts of hair

More often carrot or corn

A cherry nose of viral scorn

A backward child

With childish pride

Appraised in adulthood.
